Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Hollister Area

Posted on February 28, 2007 by Stephen

There are three main types of hunting available, including upland game bird, small game, and big game (deer and wild pig). Varmint (non-game) hunting is also allowed. Look at the table below to find the publicly accessible places in this resource area which support the different types of hunting. Animals listed in parenthesis indicate that success for that species is marginal to extremely marginal. For maps and more information about these areas, you can purchase an information packet ($4.00), which includes maps and resource area information, or call us
at (831) 630-5000, and ask to speak to the recreation planner. Click here for a questions and answers page about pig hunting, and legal guns and weapons.

First Day Shooting my Reminton 870

Posted on February 24, 2007 by Stephen

Today I assembled my shotgun and cycled the action a couple of times to get a feel for the smoothness. I went to WalMart to pick up some clays and shotshells. I bought a case (250 shotshells) for about $60.00. WalMart was out of clays, so I went to 2nd Amendment Sports where dad bought two cases of clays (about $12 each).

Today I picked up my Shotgun

Well today was the day I finally picked up my shotgun
(picture). I will head out to the range later to give it a go. It took 45 minutes to finally be handed my gun, but it was worth the wait.

E-Book reader

I am really interested in a good E-Book Reader that supports PDFs and other formats that are not DRM protected. It looks like Sony has a nice reader called the "Sony Reader" or
(about $350.00).

Prometheus Award Winners from 1979 to 2006

Posted on February 13, 2007 by Stephen

In 1979, science fiction writer L. Neil Smith created the Prometheus Awards, to honor libertarian fiction. A panel selected F. Paul Wilson's Wheels Within Wheels as the best novel, and a gold coin then worth $2,500 was presented to Wilson. Due to the cost of the award, and lack of a formal organization, the Prometheus Awards fell into limbo the following year.

Founded in 1982 to provide encouragement to science fiction writers whose books examine the meaning of freedom, the Libertarian Futurist Society revived the Prometheus Award for best libertarian novel of the year. LFS began in 1982 sponsoring the annual Prometheus Award for Best Novel, and in 1983 a second annual award called the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award was added. The Prometheus Hall of Fame Award is designed to honor classic libertarian fiction.

The prize for both the Prometheus and the Hall of Fame awards is a gold coin, representing free trade and free minds, mounted on an engraved plaque. Originally, for the Prometheus Best Novel Award the coin was one-half ounce, for the Hall of Fame it was one-eighth ounce. Starting in 2001, the Prometheus Best Novel Award coin became one ounce.
