Today I got a new planting tool that I figured was perfect for our small backyard with clayey soil. The HOUND DOG 41 In. Garden Hound Stand Up Tiller has four tines that stick into the ground and as I twist the device the ground tears apart and is aerated.

The Kindle definitely makes reading easier; however, since PDFs are "page descriptions" the PDF are rendered as very small pages. Sure, the pages can be enlarged but unless you have really good eyes for small print the PDFs don't work too well.

More Backyard Work

Over the weekend we pulled up two plants that had not shown any promise of returning after a bout with a plant disease or drought. I pulled up the gardenia and the rhododendron. These two plants were looking a bit worse for wear after the first year. Both had been moved once to a more sunny area to get them out of the shade and into more acidic soil amendments, but this move didn't produce the kind of results we wanted.
