Divemaster Skills Circuit

Over the last three weeks I have been in the pool at Diver Dan's finishing my Divemaster Skills Circuit. The first week (9/10) we (John, Ryan, Orr, Eddie and me) were there to learn the art of "the demonstration". Exagerate all movements to highlight areas that students might miss if not explicitely shown. Go slow and methodically. Look relaxed and at-home underwater. The next week (9/18) we were back to be graded on the Skills Circuit. We made it through about 15 of the 20 skills. Finally, we came back on 9/24 to finish. Each skill is rated from 1 to 5 with 3 defined as the skill was done at a student's level. I passed with a score of 93 out of 100 possible points (minimum score required is 63 with no single score less than 3).

Here are the PADI 20 open water skills:

01. Equipment assembly, adjustment, preparation, donning and disassembly
02. Predive safety check (BWRAF)
03. Deep water entry
04. Buoyancy check at surface
05. Snorkel-regulator/regulator snorkel exchange
06. Five point descent
07. Regulator recovery and clearing
08. Mask removal, replacement and clearing
09. Air depletion exercise and alternate air source use stationary
10. Freeflow regulator breathing
11. Fin pivot (neutral buoyancy)
12. Five point ascent
13. Remove and replace weight system on the surface
14. Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA)
15. Hovering motionless
16. Underwater swim without a mask
17. Remove and replace weight system underwater
18. Remove and replace scuba unit underwater
19. Remove and replace scuba unit on the surface
20. Buddy breathing stationary and swimming (donor and receiver)

List taken from the 2006 PADI Instructor Manual.
