Thanksgiving 2009

Posted on November 29, 2009 | Stephen

Well the fall season has come and gone now. Christmas is around the corner and the mad-dash to get stuff for everyone has begun. This year was especially important to me. I love the fall and I love how my wife decorates the house for fall. There were garlands and wreaths full of fall colors spread throughout the house. Pumpkins, leaves, twigs, gourds and all other fall items made the house feel warm and inviting to friends and family. (picture)
This Thanksgiving was supposed to be a big family year at our house--my mom and dad, brother and his family and two of our friends with their daughter. My mom and dad were able to make it up to see us, but my brother, sister-in-law, nephew and niece could not make it. My nephew had the swine flu. He had fevers on and off during the holiday break--poor little guy. Thanksgiving dinner was for 7 instead of the expected 11. We had a 21 pound turkey that is still serving as dinner for the past three days.

My wife always makes a fantastic spread when we entertain friends and family; this year was no different. Along with the turkey we had yams with candied pecans (brought by our friends), mash'taters, stuffing with sausage, green bean casserole, rolls, pickles, olives, two kinds of cranberry sauce and lots of gravy. Of course there was pumpkin pie!
